June Playreading

We are happy to invite you to our next playreading, which will be hosted by Jillian Hattersley:

The Mouse Trap by Agatha Christie

Date and time: Tuesday, June 17, 18:30
Venue: St. Ursula’s Church, Jubiläumsplatz 2, 3005 Bern

The longest-running play of all time, The Mousetrap is an Agatha Christie murder mystery that has been playing in London since 1952. Every performance requests the audience to keep the ending a secret, and we ask that you respect the spirit of that request. Hence, we recommend that you do not read the script in advance of the play reading, so that you can stay in suspense and discover the ending along with everyone else.

The reading is open to members and non-members alike. If you plan to join, please download the script from the members’ area of our new website, or contact us at playreading@upstage.ch to obtain the script, so you can bring it along in paper or digital form.

Synopsis:

Five guests arrive at the newly-opened Monkswell Manor, a bed and breakfast in Berkshire, England. They find themselves gathered in a remote part of the countryside during a blizzard. As the two owners prepare to host the guests, they learn that a murderer is in their midst. A police inspector joins the group, and with each character revealing dark secrets, the tension mounts until the final shocking reveal.

Characters (4M, 3F):

  • Mollie Ralston: Proprietor of Monkswell Manor, and wife of Giles.
  • Christopher Wren: The first guest to arrive at the hotel, a hyperactive young man who acts in a very peculiar manner.
  • Mrs Boyle: A critical older woman who is pleased by nothing she observes
  • Major Metcalf: Retired from the army, little is known about Major Metcalf.
  • Miss Casewell: A strange, aloof, masculine woman who speaks offhandedly about the horrific experiences of her childhood.
  • Mr Paravicini: A man of unknown provenance, who turns up claiming his car has overturned in a snowdrift.
  • Detective Sergeant Trotter: The detective. He arrives in a snow storm, and questions the proprietors and guests.

The roles will be assigned at the play reading.

We look forward to seeing you there!
