Synopsis:
The Importance of Being Earnest: A Trivial Comedy for Serious People was first performed in London in 1895. It tells the story of two men about town, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, who both assume the identity of a fictional man named Ernest, deceiving those around them as they woo two young women. The name Ernest is of course a play on the word ”earnest”, meaning both serious and sincere – but the play is anything but serious, and the characters are anything but sincere.
