Synopsis
In the futuristic society of “The Giver” all pain, fear or hatred have been eliminated, but there is no joy either. In this strictly regulated community, choice has also been eliminated: on turning twelve a young person is assigned a job according to their interests and abilities. When Jonas turns twelve, he is assigned the special role of Receiver of Memory. In this role he works with the Giver to receive and store memories of the world as it used to exist – memories of violence and fear, but also of joy and love. Together, Jonas and the Giver come up with a plan that will change their world forever.

In the play, Jonas also tackles with the transmission of painful memories like starvation and physical pain. You are always allowed to leave if there are elements in the performance that upset you.
